The Smithfield Street Bridge, 1883, was the first major bridge built by the great bridge engineer Gustav Lindenthal. It consists of a pair of "lenticular" (meaning lens shaped) trusses, each of 360 foot span. One of Pittsburgh's (and the nation's) major historic landmarks, it has recently been completely restored.
